It was way back in 1983 in Lords Cricket ground , England when I was in 8th standard in school when Kapil Dev and his Devils as they were popularly known , created a surprise in the Cricket World . They led Underdogs India to the World cup finals. They created a bigger surprise when they defeated the undefeatable West Indies , the reigning cricket world champions then. The nation sprung into joy when the Captain and his team lifted the Prudential cup  at Lords. Fire Crackers were bursted and there were shouts of joy and cheer from the my colony in the midnight hour.

The victory was the watershed in the Indian Cricket History and made this sport as popular as football in Brazil , not only in India but also in the neighboring countries of Pakistan and Sri Lanka.. The team later won Benson and Hedges cup In Australia and  Asia Cup in Sharjah. Soon every young boy in India started playing Cricket . Thanks to media coverage One day international cricket was  able to be watched in every corner of the country. I myself used to watch the cricket match glued on my seat in front of the television ignoring  all my studies and homework and my parents advice stopping me to watch the television.

It is year 2011 now and we are meeting in Wankhede Stadium , Mumbai . India are no longer regarded as Underdogs. Led by their Captain , Mahendra Singh Dhoni , they are on top in ICC cricket ratings , both in Test Match and In One Day International. Indian Team boasts of few of the world’s best batsmen and all Rounders . Their team consists of Sachin Tendulkar the world’s best batsman who holds maximum numbers of centuries in both Test Match and One Day International . He is the only player to score a double century in One Day International. He holds so many world records that no player can come near him. He is the second little master after Sunil Gavaskar. Then we have world class batsman like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virendra Sehwag, Yuv Raj Singh , Gautam Gambhir , Suresh Raina and Kohli. who can crush any Bowling attack from any team in the world. We have good bowling strength which includes Zaheer Khan , Munaf Patel ,  Harbhajan Singh and Yuv Raj Singh which can penetrate any Batting Defences of any world team.

India won all the matches in except one against South Africa which they lost and the other against England which ended in a tie. In no match did their Batting line up seems to Falter. They were really a well organized team  inspired and trained  by their Coach Gary Kirsten.

Success favors the Brave. Indian players showed that the team spirit that can inspire any sports team in the world. They played and fought in the sun and in the flood lights battling and defeating  their rival teams one by one until they reached the crown. They Defeated the Mighty Australians in the Quarter finals , then their traditional rivals Pakistan in the Semi Finals and then a very strong team Sri Lankans in the Finals.

Well Done India !!!
